Recovering Relationships

Our most basic and instinctual need is the need to feel connected to those we love.  The quality of our relationships has a profound impact on our emotions and even our physical health.  Healthy, loving relationships can provide a sense of protection from life’s stressors and strengthen us as we face challenges by providing comfort, closeness, safety, and security.  However, if we feel disconnected from those we love, the opposite becomes true.  If our relationships are in turmoil or crisis, we may feel more isolated and distant from those we love and less secure.  If you are struggling with relationship issues, help is available.  Call today for an appointment.

Porn Use

TEENS (14-17) & YOUNG ADULTS

Pornography in different forms has been with us for hundreds of years.  However, porn today is very different than porn prior to the internet.  With the invention of the internet, every type of content and arousal are instantly available.  Many are unaware of how strong the pull and addictive nature of porn can be.  Although some may view porn without it impacting their daily lives or their relationships, others may find themselves viewing it more and more until it begins to negatively impact their lives.  Whether you are a parent concerned about your child’s porn use or you are a teen or young adult wondering if your porn use is a problem, call today for an assessment.

Women Impacted by Addiction

Women are uniquely impacted by addiction.  Some women themselves struggle with substance use or compulsive relationship patterns.  For others, the person they are in a relationship with struggles with addiction.  Still others are parents concerned about their teen’s or young adult’s porn use or sexual behavior.  If your life is negatively impacted by addiction, whether your own or someone you love, there is help.  Call today for an appointment.

Trauma

How we experience an event determines whether it is traumatic for us.   Most of us readily recognize events such as natural disasters, crimes, and abuse as trauma.  However, an event does not have to be catastrophic to be traumatic.   Any number of disruptive life experiences can be traumatic including an accident, job change or loss, conflict with a partner or children, and betrayal by a partner.  An experience is considered traumatic when it is extremely stressful or disturbing, leaves us feeling overwhelmed, and the resulting anxiety makes it difficult to cope.  At LCS we use EMDR, an integrative psychotherapy approach that has been extensively researched and proven effective, for treating trauma.  If you are experiencing symptoms of trauma, call today for an appointment.
